Fishing
One word says it all, DIVERSITY!
Diversity in fish species, diversity in lake structure and diversity of fishing techniques and opportunities is what you’ll find at ECO Mer Bleue. The main lake, lac Mer Bleue is 5km’s long by 2km’s wide and consists of numerous points, rock shoals, islands and sandy/weedy back bays making it prolific for the reproduction of all fish species. Lake trout, walleye (yellow pickerel), northern pike,
smallmouth bass (click video image), whitefish, pumkinseed, perch, brown bullhead and common white sucker are all found within the main lake. Lakes both within the exclusive territory as well as small lakes outside of the territory also contain indigenous brook trout.
Unlike many other outfitters where once you catch your limit of trout or walleye and need to stop fishing, at Mer Bleue you catch your limit and simply change techniques to move on to the next species. In fact throughout most of the year the seasons for all species are open at the same time keeping your angling options open.
To ensure a continued high level of fishing quality we have established a voluntary Fisheries management plan that we hope you will follow. By working with the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources biologists we have come up with recommendations that will not only maintain the excellent fishing quality in lac Mer Bleue but improve it even more! By asking our fishermen to respect our minimum size lengths or slot sizes depending on species, or better yet practicing catch and release, we can all play a part in maintaining a truly trophy fishery.
We’re doing our part too! We will be enhancing the natural spawning beds for walleye and keeping a close watch during the spawning season to deter poachers from taking walleye during their most vulnerable time. We’ll be conducting lake assessments of our internal lakes to see if supplemental stocking can be done to give our clients even more fishing options while at the same time reducing some of the pressure on the native stocks.
Please note that Poaching will not be tolerated at ECO Mer Bleue as the resource is there for all to enjoy equally.
Fisheries management plan to include: recommended but voluntary slot sizes, minimum sizes, catch and release contest. Of course these are simply recommendations and all clients can choose to what extent they wish to participate. Provincial fishing regulations are the only true regulations which must be adhered to.
